Signing Protected Users In

No password for them to remember. Just scan and go.

Once you’ve created your child’s profile, signing them into ChatMinder on their device takes about thirty seconds — using a QR code generated on their device. Works on any tablet, phone, or web browser.

Why a QR code?

Protected users don’t have their own credentials. There’s no email or password for your child to manage — and none for them to forget, share, or misuse. Instead, you generate a time-limited QR code from their device. You scan it with your device and select which child to sign in, and they’re in.

The sign in process is designed to be simple. It works similarly to how you are able to sign into apps on smart tvs – using QR codes, and your own devices camera.

How to sign your child in — step by step

Step 1 — Install the app on your childs device

Install the app on your childs device from the relevant app store and start the app

Step 2 — Continue with QR Code

On the Sign In screen, click Continue with QR Code, which will generate a QR code which uniquely identifies their device.

Step 3 — Scan the QR Code with your device

On your own device, simply scan the QR code using your camera. This will open ChatMinder on your device and show a screen listing your protected users.

Step 4 — Select the Protected User you want to Sign In

Simply tap the child you want to sign in, and your childs device will automatically refresh and be signed in.

Step 5 — Done

Your child is now signed in. They’ll see their chat interface and can start using the app straight away.

Works on any device they already have

  • iPhone or iPad — download ChatMinder from the App Store
  • Android phone or tablet — download from Google Play
  • Any web browser — no download needed; works on Chromebooks, older tablets, and desktop browsers

There’s no need for a dedicated device or a specific operating system. ChatMinder works wherever your child already is.

New device? New QR code. Done.

If your child gets a new device, is signed out, or needs to sign in on a second device, just perform the process again. Multiple devices can be signed in simultaneously — so they can use ChatMinder on both a tablet and a phone if needed.

You control access — including signing them out

You can remotely sign your child out of ChatMinder at any time from the guardian dashboard. Once signed out, re-access requires a new QR code — which only you can generate. This gives you a simple, effective way to pause access if you need to.
