What it can do
Tap the magic wand button in the chat composer to open Message Improvement. A sheet appears with options:
- Fix Grammar — corrects grammatical errors and awkward phrasing
- Fix Spelling — catches wrong-word substitutions that spell check misses
- Expand — adds detail and context to a short message
- Shorten — trims a message to its key points
- Simplify — rewrites in plain, easy-to-understand language
- Change Tone: Friendly, Formal, or Casual — adjusts the tone of a message
Why it’s different to a keyboard app
Third-party keyboard apps like Grammarly Keyboard or SwiftKey require “Full Access” — permission to read everything typed on the device, in every app. Message Improvement only ever processes the message currently typed into ChatMinder. When you tap the magic wand, ChatMinder sends just that message text to our AI service and returns a suggested improvement. There is no background process, no keylogging, and no persistent device-wide permission required or granted.
Guardian controls
Guardians control whether Message Improvement is available to each protected user individually, from Feature Protection. It is off by default — you have to explicitly enable it for each child. When it’s disabled, tapping the magic wand shows a prompt asking the child to speak with their guardian.
Built for real families, not a checklist
Message Improvement was built in direct response to a real family’s experience with dyslexia — catching wrong-word substitutions like “thought” instead of “through” that ordinary spell check misses. It’s part of a broader set of accessibility features built the same way: in response to real feedback, not a framework checklist.
