Sharing Protected Users

Let trusted people find your child — without sharing a username.

Sharing a protected user’s profile with your contacts makes it easy for trusted family members and friends to find and connect with your child — all within the same supervised environment you control.

What sharing a protected user means

When you share a protected user’s profile with a contact, your child’s name and avatar appear in that contact’s “People on ChatMinder” discovery section — a dedicated area of the contacts screen that shows who they can connect with. No push notification is sent when you share — the contact simply sees your child appear the next time they open that section.

Importantly, this discoverability also extends to any protected users which that contact manages. So if you share your child’s profile with a grandparent or family friend who supervises their own children, those children will also see your child in their discovery list — allowing children across your contact network to find each other within the supervised environment, without guardians needing to coordinate manually.

Sharing a profile does not automatically add anyone as a contact. Depending on your child’s Contacts Protection settings, an incoming contact request from someone who now sees your child in their discovery list may still need your approval before it is accepted.

Auto-share when creating a new profile

When you create a new protected user profile, ChatMinder gives you the option to immediately share them with your existing contacts. This means the people who already know your child — grandparents, aunts, uncles, family friends — can connect from day one, without anyone having to hunt for usernames or wait for a manual invitation.

By default, the new profile is shared with all of your existing contacts at once. You can switch this off during creation if you prefer to share with specific contacts later — or adjust the setting at any time from the protected user sharing settings.

Share manually at any time

You can also share a protected user’s profile at any time after creation. From the protected user profile, open your child’s profile and tap Sharing. You can then select which of your contacts to share with (or opt to share automatically with all contacts).

This is useful when a new family member joins ChatMinder, or when you want to connect your child with a new trusted friend without asking them to initiate a contact request themselves.

No notifications, no interruptions

Sharing never sends a push notification to the contact — there’s no interruption on their end. They simply see your child appear in their “People on ChatMinder” section the next time they check it, ready to connect if they choose to.

Only the information needed to make the connection is included — no message history, no location, no other personal details.
