Welcome

You’ve been invited to ChatMinder

Someone in your family has asked you to join them on ChatMinder, a supervised chat and calling app for children. It is free for you to join, and takes a few minutes. Here is what it is and what happens next.

How to get started

1

Open the link you were sent

It’s usually a personal ChatMinder link from the family member who invited you. Keep the message handy.

2

Install the app or use the web

Get ChatMinder on iPhone, iPad or Android, or open it in any web browser, and create your free account.

3

Start chatting once you’re approved

The child’s parent or guardian decides who can chat with them, so they may need to approve you first. After that, you can message your family member.

What to expect

  • It’s free for you. Joining and chatting with your family doesn’t cost anything. Only the child’s guardian can choose to buy Premium.
  • The family stays in control. Guardians choose who a child can talk to, and they can choose to approve messages before they are delivered, so a message may sometimes take a little longer to arrive.
  • No pressure. There are no read receipts, no “last seen” and no online status, so nobody has to reply straight away.
  • Voice and video calls. If the family allows calls with you, you can call each other in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps. Guardians always choose who can call.
  • Not a social network. There are no public profiles, no strangers and no feeds. It’s a private place for a family and the people they choose.

Questions you might have

Is this a genuine invitation?

ChatMinder invitations are sent by the family member who shares their personal link with you. If you weren’t expecting one, check with the person who sent it before you sign up.

Do I have to pay anything?

No. A free account is all you need to chat with the family who invited you. Premium is optional and is bought by a child’s guardian, not by the people who chat with them.

Can I see what other people are saying?

You can see your own conversations with the family member who invited you. Guardians can supervise their child’s chats, so assume a parent may be able to see what’s said.

I’ve been invited to help supervise, not just to chat. What’s different?

A parent can invite you as a co-guardian, by email or Minder ID, so you can help supervise a child. See Invite Co-Guardians for what co-guardians can do.

Can I use ChatMinder on a computer?

Yes, for chat: open it in any web browser. Voice and video calls are in the iPhone, iPad and Android apps.

Is ChatMinder an emergency service?

No. Calls can’t be used to contact the emergency services (999 or 112).
