Yes — ChatMinder has a free tier that includes unlimited monitored chats, up to 8 protected users, contact approvals, and manual message moderation. Premium (from £1/month per child, billed annually) adds AI-powered message analysis, full chat message visibility, and automatic moderation rules.
Does my child need a smartphone or phone number?
No. ChatMinder works on iPads, Android tablets, and any web browser — so children can chat safely on devices they already have, before they ever own a smartphone. No SIM card or phone number required.
What age is ChatMinder designed for?
ChatMinder is designed for children of all ages. There are three supervision levels — Guardian Managed (young children), Approval Required (pre-teens), and Trusted (teens) — so you can match the level of control to your child’s age and maturity, and adjust it as they grow.
How does AI moderation work?
Premium subscribers can enable AI message analysis, which scans each message and assigns a risk score: Safe, Low, Medium, or High. You set the rules — for example, automatically approving safe messages, flagging medium-risk ones for your review, and blocking high-risk ones outright. You can override any AI decision at any time, and you can opt out completely.
Can I read my child’s messages?
Yes, with a Premium licence. Free accounts can see who your child is chatting with and the structure of their conversations, but reading the actual message content requires Premium. It’s the single biggest reason parents upgrade.
Is ChatMinder compliant with the UK Online Safety Act?
Yes. ChatMinder includes robust age verification, proactive content monitoring, parental controls, and clear escalation procedures for child protection concerns — in line with the requirements of the UK Online Safety Act 2023.
Is my child’s data used for advertising or sold to third parties?
Never. ChatMinder does not use any data for advertising, profiling, or commercial purposes. We do not share data with third parties for their own use. Data is stored in the UK and used only to deliver and improve the service.
What happens if I cancel Premium?
Your account reverts to the Free tier. AI moderation is disabled and message content visibility is restricted. All your chats, contacts, and settings are preserved — you won’t lose any data by downgrading.
