How it all started

“I was travelling on business more and more, and found that I could not readily be in contact directly with my young children – even though I know that they have regular access to their tablets. Existing apps on the market would open up additional safety concerns that I just didn’t want to risk, and wanted a solution which empowered me as a responsible parent, to personally guarantee their safety.”

Our story

As the world grapples with an ever evolving landscape of social media platforms and children get increasing exposure to unwelcome and un-regulated content, we thought there had to be a better way. Maybe AI is the answer – but even that has its flaws and biases.

As parents ourselves, we concluded that the only way that we could guarantee the safety of our children online (particularly our younger children), is if we are informed of their activities. We wanted a way for them to take advantage of the advancements in modern technologies which allow for real-time communication, but we also wanted a way to be a gate-keeper of what they could send or receive.

As our children are different ages, and have different levels of maturity already when it comes to being safe online, we also wanted features which catered for these different scenarios.

For example, being able to approve chat between certain contacts for a certain duration, or using AI to automatically continue as long as the topic remained the same, or using AI to flag sensitive content, with customisable levels of sensitivity.

So, we created ChatMinder.
